Banjarturi Village, Warureja District, Tegal Regency (25/07/2023) – The threat of Domestic Violence (KDRT) is often a frightening specter in society. This is because the act of domestic violence can have a negative impact on a person’s physical and psychological health. Banjarturi village is one of the villages with minimal understanding of domestic violence. This is because labeling a person as a victim of domestic violence in society still has a bad stigma, one of which is considered as spreading disgrace to the family. In fact, the act of domestic violence is not a disgrace. In addition, not many people know that children in a family can also be victims of domestic violence.
In order to provide education to children related to understanding domestic violence, one of the Diponegoro University KKN Team II students from the Faculty of Law named Azzahra Ananda Harafa who provided socialization regarding early detection of prevention and handling of domestic violence in children entitled “Educating the Importance of Eradicating Domestic Violence in the Family”. Based on Article 1 paragraph (1) of Law Number 24 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence states that “Any action against a person, especially women, which results in physical, sexual, psychological misery or suffering, and/or neglect of the household, including threats to commit acts, coercion, or unlawful deprivation of liberty within the household sphere”.
The socialization was held on 25 July 2023 at MTs Nurul Ulum Banjarturi Village with the target audience being grades 7, 8, and 9. The material presented at the previous socialization started with a video showing examples of acts of domestic violence from the Directorate General of Information, Public Communication, and Communication and Informatics, then continued with substances related to the type of domestic violence, the impact of domestic violence, to the hotline for handling domestic violence. After that, the activity continued with a question-and-answer session in which three students asked questions based on the material previously presented.
Innovative and informative delivery of material builds enthusiasm for socialization participants so that participants become active participants in these activities. This socialization program can provide an initial understanding of the threat of domestic violence and appropriate treatment if you experience or see domestic violence behavior in other people.
Considering that domestic violence is not a form of disgrace that should not be exposed to society, but domestic violence is a form of crime that needs to be reported to the authorities as mandated by Law Number 24 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence.
Through this KKN program, it is hoped that the community, especially children, can have awareness and education when they find or experience domestic violence themselves in the family so that the authorities can handle it early and massively. In addition, people who are known or wish to report do not feel afraid or ashamed of the stigma that exists in society against victims of domestic violence who should receive protection and not judgment by their surroundings.
